A maniac named Art the Clown terrorizes his two friends on Halloween and everyone in his path. David Howard Thornton was the sixth person to audition for Art The Clown after Mike Giannelli retired from the role and acting altogether. During the hearing, he began imitating the taste of his beheaded victim’s blood, but then added salt to enhance the taste. That won him the role. In the shots where Tara is gagged with duct tape, the tape is clearly not in contact with her lower mouth in some earlier shots, while in other shots it is tightly around both of her lips. Creator Damien Leone would keep Art in his feature film All Hallows’ Eve (2013), but with a small role. Now here we are and Art has his own movie, but is it any good? Honestly, not really, but it’s better than his last solo outing. It follows the usual horror movie formula and sees a couple of girls on Halloween night being attacked by a psychotic clown. So again, it’s a generic thing, it adopts all the usual tropes, and while it’s not predictable, there are certainly no surprises. It’s also pretty ugly and oddly paced from start to finish. However, Terrifier has pure, unadulterated brutality. It’s bloody, nasty, no-holds-barred, unrelenting stuff. The truth is that I was very surprised. Everything looks pretty good considering the budget, so kudos to the special effects department. I like clowns as enemies, but the Art just doesn’t seem to suit me enough. He’s less of a clown and more of a pantomime and doesn’t seem like an interesting enough character to carry his own movie. Comprehensible material, but I will have forgotten by this time next week.
